Harwich - "Fall" in love

Part of our continuing series on Cape Cod Towns
Harwich in the fall is an exciting place to be, especially the the Fall into Harwich events including the famous Harwich Cranberry Festival scheduled for September 17 and 18.  There is so much to do in Harwich this time of year - Biking, golfing, arts and shopping.  Wonderful places to stay and dine, make Harwich's many villages of Harwich, Harwich Port, West Harwich and South Harwich a wonderful weekend get away or week long adventure.

The Harwich Cranberry Festival is an annual favorite for visitors and locals alike.  The Arts and Music Festival has 85 artists and crafts people from the Cape and other areas in New England.  The Arts Festival runs from 9 am to 4 pm both days of the festival and there is food and beverage vendors available at the event.  The Music festival is on the same grounds as the arts festival and music starts at noon and goes to 7 pm on Saturday and to 4 pm on Sunday.  Listen to great bluegrass, jazz, blues, rock and some punk too while checking out all the great offering by the artists.  Many locals use this festival to kick off their holiday gift shopping.  The Cranberry Festival family fun highlight is the Berry Berry Cranberry Parade.  This is the parades of your childhood - with bands, floats, antique cars and others that will delight you and your family and bring you back to a simpler time.  Step off is around noon on Sunday.

Harwich's other fall events include a Farmer's Market each Thursday afternoon until the end of September - local farmers and others offering the produce of the season (part of the Cape Cod's Eat Fresh Eat Local program).  September 24 is Rockin' for the Arts which is Harwich High School Friends of the Arts fall fundraiser.  It will be 7 PM – 11 PM at the
Harwich Port Seafarer.  The Harwich Cranberry Half Marathon and 7.3 mile Road Race helps finish off the fall special events on Sunday October 2.

For "unscheduled" things to do during the beautiful Cape Cod fall days in Harwich, take a walk or bike ride on the Cape Cod Rail Trail.  Enjoy the several side trips off the trail in Harwich including the Hacker Wildlife Sanctuary (Harwich Conservation Trust) and the Harwich Historical Society Museum.  Enjoy a show at the Harwich Junior Theatre which includes musical performances, original plays and classic Broadway - this fall its "Promises, Promises".
