Cape & Islands Offer an Old Fashioned Christmas!

Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard are the places to get away from the hustle and bustle of the malls and settle into a slower pace of church fairs, and Holiday Strolls featuring horse-drawn rides, hot cider (or better yet, chocolate) and carolers on lovely Main Streets of yesterday. Put away those credit cards, stay away from the malls and shopping plazas! Take a break from all the commercialism of the Holiday season and enjoy some old-fashioned Holiday magic in the spirit of family, friends and community.

The first "Thanksgiving" in 1621 was a traditional three day English harvest celebration to which the Pilgrims invited Massasoit, Chief of the the Wamapanoag. It wasn't until the nineteenth century that this event became identified with the American Thanksgiving holiday. Visit Plimoth Plantation to learn about the "First Thanksgiving".

Cape Cod & Islands - August Summer Fun!

The calendar reads August, the back-to-school merchandise is on sale, but don't despair. It's not too late to plan a Cape Cod family vacation or stay-cation. There are still a few weeks of good summer weather and lots to do! August is a great month to be outdoors! Cape Cod is famous for it's beaches - pack a cooler, your sunscreen, boogie board, a sun umbrella, some blankets and beach chairs and head for the beach!

Centerville parade Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. It is also a day that we remember our own deceased relatives and friends. Memorial Day weekend has come to be the official start of the summer season on Cape Cod and the Islands.

Cape & Islands - Desperately Awaiting Signs of Spring!

The calendar says Spring, but all of Mother Nature's signs of spring are still hidden as we await an end to the longest, coldest, snowiest winter on record. The crocuses should be in full bloom and the daffodils should be sprouting leaves but sadly the bulbs are still frozen and buried under multiple feet of snow - let's hope for a showing later in the month.

Cape & Islands - February School Vacation Week!

For most Cape Cod schools, traditionally starting with Presidents day, February 16th through the 22nd is February School Vacation week! Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket public school students will enjoy winter recess the following week. Cape Cod offers lots to do in the winter, both in and outdoors, for Cape Cod kids, as well as visiting families and grandchildren.

BLIZZARD WATCH! Sunday, January 25, 2015- The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch - "Major nor'easter to affect northeastern U.S." from January 26 through January 28- "A crippling and potentially historic blizzard is set to impact the area beginning late Monday into Tuesday, lingering into early Wednesday. The worst of the storm will be from Monday night into Tuesday." Be prepared!

Cape and Islands has said good-bye to 2014 and has embraced the New Year 2015. And of course, what is New Year's with out a list of resolutions? So, in addition to the usual slew of good intentions (lose weight, get in shape, eat healthy and drink more water, stay in touch with old friends, attend cultural events, clean the house, etc...) quickly discarded without a plan by the end of January, here's our environmental and personal goals for 2015...
